thoughts

Well I definitely had an interesting class today that really challenged me. I'm taking a class called Theology and Youth Culture with Dr. Case. In the class currently we are talking about the effect media has on our students and how they think about and analyze it. Its seems tho that ever single class turns into a debate about the right way to do ministry...either big church or small church.

I seem to be the only one in the class that goes to or is willing to defend "mega church". Its kinda hard to sit in a class and have people say that lights and sound are just a gimic to get people in the door. It makes me ask if it is...but at the same time when you have 3 thousand people you can't fly with an acoustic guitar with no amp and no amplified speaking voice its just impossible. It doesn't help that I am a techie so of course I think its vital...haha.

The class has really challenged me to think about the motives that "big church" uses but heres the thing: I believe in what we are doing. I believe that big church works. I think big church has problems but so does little church. The politics in little church can cripple pastors just as easily in little church as it can in big church, and thats just one example.

A friend of mine wrote in his blog about what is like to be behind the scenes. I guess that effects my view. I have trouble defending big church sometimes because of stuff that happens behind the scenes but at the same time I want to say how people in big church are really taking the call to give the message of Christ to as many people as possible and love doing it and really care about students.

I think the Hub's mission statement is something like "helping as many students as possible wholeheatedly know the love of Christ." The great commission calls us to spread the love of Christ. I don't think we are doing something wrong. Is it better to have 8 core kids or 300 kids learning about Christ. I DON'T KNOW. I don't have the answers I search for.

So thats my unresolved thought on the class today. If that doesn't make sense I'm sorry I have a head cold that is making coherent thoughts hard to come by.
