Al-righty--well as some people say I haven't blogged in awhile. Its called college don't expect to much...my 9 got cancelled today.
So I have to say I absolutely love being back at Houghton. Why you may ask would someone be excited to go back to school and spend hours studying and working on stuff that may not even matter in the real world. I love the community. I love that my group of friends when they see a scared freshman ask if they want to sit with us. I love conversations about faith over salsa at fiesta day in the CC. I love long conversations about theology when you are trying to watch a movie. I like that its okay to question and okay to disagree. Yes I even love soccer games and racquet ball (Walker 3...Kerry 1).
So what does this have to do with anything really. I've been thinking a lot about what it means to have community and create it. How can it be fostered was a question that was brought up concerning community at bible study type program.
Honestly, what would it look like in the church today if we felt genuine community? If people could share there struggles and hurts and not feel judged. People wouldn't need places like http://mysecret.tv/ where people confess all types of things to readers of the website anonymously. There would probably be less suicide, cutting, depression, sexual abuses if people just felt comfortable talking about things to other people.
I want to foster that in my life. I am so blessed to have friends that are willing to listen and not judge me or others. Bree, Kevin, Krista, Bethany, Walker, Ashley, Pauly, T-rev, Chris, Mike, Matt, Fish,... just to name a few of many. Everyone should have people like these people in there lives. Again I am so blessed. Thank you all for being part of my life.
